Quantum Engineering students are required to perform either (i) an ETH QuanTech workshop or (ii) an industry internship. Each option amounts to 12 ECTS credit points.

(i) The QuanTech Workshop can be performed in parallel with classes. Admission to the QuanTech Workshops is limited and the selection is made based on a proposal.

The mission of the ETH based QuanTech workshops is project-oriented learning. Students work in teams (2-4 students), consisting of engineers and physicists, and jointly tackle a quantum engineering challenge. The course "Case Studies: Applications of Quantum Technology" prepares students for the QuanTech Workshops and the drafting of the proposals.

(ii) The internship takes place in industry; exceptions are only approved in rare cases and require prior consultation with the study coordinator. The internship must be completed before the start of the Master's thesis and last at least 12 weeks full-time.
